Bright Lights, Sin City and La La again.....

So we have completed the Las Vegas stage of the trip and what an experience it has been. Staying at the Luxor (the big pyramid at the end of the strip) was an experience; when the 'elevator' doesn't go up and down, but rather side to side to get you to your floor and makes you want to chuck in the process, well you know that basic laws of nature simply no longer apply...'brace yourself kid, we are in for a ride'...went through my head at this point.

Like the majority of the western movie going world, I have experienced the celluloid version of Las Vegas many times-loud, fleshy, flashy images sprinkled with epilileptic inducing light displays from every conceivable surface. What the large and small screen does not prepare you for is the sheer size of the buildings, volume of people and the amount of cigarette and marijuana smoke oozing from every casino floor and hotel corridor. Every single sense gets assaulted in every way- both good and bad. Any longer than 2 days in this town and you begin to feel a little claustrophobic.

Having said that, I had a wonderful time. Spent 8 hours walking the strip during the light of day, checking out the lobby areas of all the major casiono's, which is a lesson in architectual imaginations run wild. Bellagio's garden party theme and the dancing water fountains, Ceasars Palace nod to Rome, Planet Hollywood and the amazing shopping on the Miracle Mile.

We had a great lunch at Hard Rock Cafe, still 'loving all and serving all' in old skool Hard Rock style which was just how I had been trained when I worked for the company over a decade ago in London. Thankfully HRC have extended their menu choices, in the last 10 years, to include some great salads and healthier options than what I remember. The evening was filled with feathers, sequins and more showgirls than you could swing a cat at. Continuing the 'old skool' theme we went to the last real showgirl experience in Las Vegas, Jubilee at the Bally. Girls dressed in not much more than strategically placed feathers, acrobats performing feats of strength and balance that had the audiences jaws collectively hit the floor more than once and a trio of very entertaining Argentinian drummers.

After having had our credit card scammed in Columbus Ohio, we were a bit on edge when we hit Vegas. We did have a great time and so with Harley Davidson and Hooters memorabilia in hand & the sun shining high in the blue dessert sky, we bade farewell to the City of Skin and Sin and started our 4 hour drive back to L.A

....the Santa Monica night awaits....xxxxx
